ULCERS AND APHTHAS
Mouth ulcers, also called aphthous ulcers, are painful lesions that appear in the mouth.
Causes:
The exact cause of most ulcers is not known. However, certain factors increase these lesions.
Stress;
High consumption of sugar;
Soft drinks;
Acidic foods;
Anti-inflammatory drugs;
New orthodontic appliances or dental prostheses (complete and partial dentures);
Iron, folic acid or vitamin B12;
Crohn's disease.
Prevention:
Avoid acidic foods (eg, carbonated drinks) which can irritate the mouth;
Use a toothbrush with soft bristles which avoids hurting the gums.
